PRESS RELEASE

JULY 2008 - Bridge City highlights

The first major development at Bridge City is starting to come out of the ground. The construction of the underground rail station is nearing completion and construction of the first and the second levels of the shopping centre have commenced. The centre is due to open its doors in October 2009 together with eThekwini Municipality 's new bus and taxi rank (located adjacent to the shopping centre and the future rail station). The bus/taxi inter-modal facility is expected to accommodate approximately 100 000 people per day and 40 000 in each of the morning and afternoon peak periods (3 hours each). The rail station is due to be opened in December 2011.

The roads and services surrounding the shopping centre will be completed shortly before the opening of the shopping centre, which is scheduled to take place in October 2009.

The access road off-ramp from the M25 Highway, the Bhejane Road Extension into Bridge City and the re-configured Besters Intersection are due to be constructed shortly.

The construction of the Magistrates Court Offices and the Regional Hospital are likely to start later in 2008 and early 2009 respectively.

The Sakhisizwe development is likely to open simultaneously with the shopping centre and will include the first residential apartments in Bridge City (the first of an expected 4 500 to 5 000 apartments).

Since all sites in Bridge City are now saleable, negotiations are progressing well with a number of developers for the sale of a number of town blocks.

A state of the art CCTV and foot patrol security system will be installed and commissioned before the opening of the shopping centre.

Enquiries are invited from all interested developers, tenants, franchisees and purchasers of premises and apartments to discuss opportunities for sites and space in Bridge City . Please contact Thulani Shabalala at the Bridge City Sales Office on 031 500 4628.

UFO sighted over Bridge City

Residents and commuters in the vicinity of the Bridge City site were stopped in their tracks this morning by a giant unidentified object hovering over the Bridge City site.

Many eyewitnesses reported hearing, “Ziyakipha! It's happening!” and found themselves repeating these words throughout the day. “It just sounds out of this world – Ziyakipha – wow!” exclaimed an enthralled member of the public.

“ Bridge City has been attracting a great deal of attention from out of town,” confirmed Brian Ive of Tongaat Hulett Developments. “We knew interest was growing further afield, but this goes beyond all expectations!”

Ive, who was at the site when the “UFO” – a giant blimp branded with Bridge City's buzzword, Ziyakipha – first appeared, reports that people from surrounding areas raced to the site to get a better look: “And with good reason! Bridge City is a revolutionary new town centre and it's one of the most exciting projects on the horizon, bridging the communities of Inanda, Ntuzuma and KwaMashu (also known as INK), and Phoenix .”

Bridge City Details

This joint venture between Tongaat Hulett Developments and the eThekwini Municipality is located just 17 kilometres from Durban 's city centre. Through a visionary new development model, Bridge City is creating a vibrant, integrated community where anyone (from any galaxy) can live, work, shop, learn, play and trade. It is also bringing infrastructure and services to these areas through new roads and upgrades, as well as a railway station and inter-modal (bus and taxis) transport hub accommodating around 40 000 commuters every day.

The economic impact extends to business development, job creation and empowerment, and some of Bridge City's planned features include a regional hospital and medical suites, filling stations, entertainment sites, a magistrates court, and more than 275 000m² of retail space, including a 40 000m² shopping centre which is already under construction.

An estimated 4500 residential apartments are planned for Bridge City in a range of sizes and options, and all in line with high quality standards. Public areas will be maintained by a management association, which will also be responsible for security.
